El Tercer Informe de Evaluación Nacional del Clima

El Tercer Informe de Evaluación Nacional del Clima a conocer hoy señala que los últimos siete años han marcado los siete pequeños mínimos de hielo marino del Ártico en el registro. Mínimos de hielo de mar son el punto en el que la fusión verano ha reducido la capa de hielo a su pequeña extensión del año.

Científicos de la NASA fue pionera en los métodos que ahora se utilizan para medir el hielo del mar desde el espacio. Más allá de los hielos marinos, la NASA monitorea regiones heladas del mundo para los indicadores de cambio a través de misiones como GRACE, Operación IceBridge y ICESCAPE.

NASA seguirá estudiando las regiones polares de la Tierra con sus misiones en curso y con el lanzamiento del satélite ICESat-2 en 2017, lo que dará a los científicos una mejor comprensión de cómo las capas de hielo del mundo están cambiando

Sea ice minimums are the point at which summer melting has reduced the ice cap to its smallest extent of the year. NASA scientists pioneered the methods now used to measure sea ice from space. Beyond sea ice, NASA monitors the world’s frozen regions for indicators of change through missions such as GRACE, Operation IceBridge and ICESCAPE. NASA will continue to study Earth’s polar regions with its ongoing missions and with the launch of the ICESat-2 satellite in 2017, which will give scientists a better understanding of how the world’s ice sheets are changing.
