Happy
Birthday EAA! On this day (January 26) in 1953, Paul Poberezny called
the first meeting of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) at
Milwaukee's Curtis-Wright (now Timmerman) Field. In September of that
year they held the first Fly-In Convention.
The annual fly-in convention has now grown into the world renowned AirVenture, held every summer in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. NASA and NASA employees play a role in AirVenture every year. Last year a NASA WB-57F made its first appearance at Oshkosh. Also, NASA Chief Historian Bill Barry gave a forum talk on the NACA (National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics) centennial. He also found time that afternoon to build a wooden airplane rib, and pulled a rivet on the One Week Wonder. And, it looks like 2015 will be an even bigger year for NASA history at Oshkosh.
